DISNEY LEGEND BOB MOORE DESIGNED SAM THE EAGLE 1984 OLYMPICS COLLECTORS PIN SET!For That Special Disney and 1984 Summer Olympics Collector
A Sam the Olympic Eagle Disney Legend Bob Moore Designed 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games Collector’s Pin Set
Sam The Olympic Eagle was the mascot for the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. He is a bald eagle, which is the National Bird of the United States. Intended as a patriotic symbol, being named Sam, also suggests a kinship with Uncle Sam, another American symbol. Sam the Olympic Eagle was designed by Disney Legend Bob Moore during his years as an artist for Disney.
Sam the Olympic Eagle Mascot was often confused by the guests of Disneyland for another Disney Mascot name Eagle Sam, the host of the former Disneyland attraction America Sings, who was designed by a fellow Disney Legend Marc Davis in 1973.
This Sam the Olympic Eagle 1984 Los Angeles Olympics Limited Edition 38 Pin Set is marked on the Brass Plate: LIMITED EDITION COLLECTORS’ PINS SERIES #1 - 1981/82 SET #5032
All 38 of these Sam The Olympic Eagle Pins were designed by Bob Moore and represent 38 different Olympic Events. The beautifully framed display case has a black felt backing and the Olympic Brass Plate that makes these Sam the Olympic Eagle Pins shine with pride!

Bob Moore attended the Chouinard Art Institute and joined Disney as an apprentice animator in 1940. There, he helped animate feature films such as Dumbo, The Reluctant Dragon and The Three Caballeros.
During World War II, when the Studio produced special projects for the U.S. government, Bob Moore helped animate training films for Navy pilots. In 1951, Bob was asked to head the one-man art department for publicity, which he ran for three decades. He single- handedly developed clever promotional art concepts for Disney films and, later, its theme parks. He eventually was named Creative Director of Marketing and designed many Disney movie posters, Christmas cards, letterheads and logos. He also served as one of Walt Disney’s official autographers, signing thousands of photographs with Walt’s famous signature.
Among the highlights of Bob’s prolific career was designing the commemorative Walt Disney United States postage stamp in 1968, as well as the official mascot for the 1984 Summer Olympics. Bob incorporated the mascot, Sam the Eagle, into the logos for each Olympic event. Bob also designed the murals that adorn the halls of three Walt Disney Elementary Schools in the cities of Marceline, Anaheim and Tullytown. Bob Moore retired from The Walt Disney Company in 1983 after 43 years of service.
