Kupittaan Savi Ceramic Vase
in lightly cleaned, as found condition
This stunning vase has a highly pleasing shape, pattern and texture that is protoypical mid century design.
Vase is a gorgeous modernist elongated bottle shape in kupittaa clay with gently sloping shoulders and oblique angle to the leading edge of the vase throat.
Exterior field color glaze is a rich matte off-white. Hand painted design is geometric stripes, stylized leaf shapes and dots in an olive or avocado green and black on all sides.
Interior glaze is a lustrous black
Marked "Made in Finland SB / (indecipherable)" , where SB is the mark for artist Solveig Björkman.
The vase is in excellent condition, no cracks, chips, or fleabites apparent. There are a few imperfections in the glazing/painting that may or may not be related to original production. Namely, two areas on opposite sides of the vase, each less than 1" in size with crackleture. An area of original hand painting at the narrowest portion of the throat is slightly muddied and appears to likely have been have been made by the finger of the artist himself. Please see photos.
