    Description

    Welcome.
    WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT IT:
This pin is strongly attributed to Dan Simplicio exemplifies some of his best work. There are two of his well documented leaves, one of his well documented stamped raindrops, and the hand made scalloped bezels as well as the hand carved gorgeous natural stones of turquoise and coral. This is a very beautiful pin prototypical of Dan Simplicio's work and I was able to buy it well so it is exceptionally well priced.
I do have other pieces of his in my store which are available separately, a few of which I included in the pics above. I have one set, a bolo and buckle, and another pin. There's also a pair of his earrings offered separately which would be perfect with this pin. In addition there is a necklace and earring set which also is a great match for this pin. Dan Simplicio's work is in the C.G.Wallace catalog, and every important collection, gallery and museum. Dan Simplicio was one of C. G. Wallace's favorite smiths. He was versatile and prolific. His work was prominently featured in the 1975 Sotheby's auction of the C. G. Wallace collection. Work from this collection is in the permanent collection of the Heard Museum in Phoenix. This buckle and also the bolo in a separate auction, are a museum quality pieces of his as are the necklace and earrings set. Dan Simplicio is credited for having been the first to use natural nuggets in his work.Dan Simplicio was one of the great master silversmiths in Zuni hIstory who worked for C. G. Wallace and is well represented in the C. G. Wallace Sotheby's catalog. He was vastly talented and worked in many techniques and styles. Truly a great master, his work commands top prices and is in the best museums and galleries. This pin has a lovely old patina which works beautifully against the colors and textures. I recommend this one for any collection. This is a museum quality piece by the renowned Dan Simplicio, whose work commands thousands of dollars, with justification. He is one of the most important Zuni artists from the CG Wallace period and his naturalistic free form style of work has become one hallmark of that era. This piece is one I wear almost daily and I recommend it for the best collections. Yes, it is museum quality.
    CONDITION:
    Excellent
vintage wearable and collectible with normal minor age related wear.
    MEASUREMENTS:
    • dimensions 2-1/8" wide x 1-1/2" high
    • weight 17.65grams
    • unsigned and not marked for metal content but it's sterling silver, at least coin at .900 or sterling at .925
    • natural coral and natural turquoise, hand carved
    SUMMARY:
A top quality example of Dan Simplicio's most beautiful work on this pin, which can be used as a pendant as well. There is a silver bail built in but I'd find it difficult to use so rather than use it I'd attach a tube to the working locking pin mechanism if I wanted to wear it as a pendant or necklace and it is gorgeous used as pin or pendant. The silver work is exemption and Dan Simplicio's work is highly collectible and very valuable.
